Student Programs at the VMTRC
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Program: Senior veterinary students
receive instruction in population medicine as part of their rotations in clinical
practice. Students in selected clinical tracks are introduced to large scale livestock
production, animal-health systems and food-processing facilities. Additionally, the
Center offers two to eight week instructional programs to selected senior veterinary
students from institutions throughout the United States and Canada.
- Master of Preventative Veterinary Medicine (MPVM) Program: MPVM
students electing to study food animals rotate through the VMTRC as part of
their instructional and research program. Participation of MPVM students in
VMTRC programs provides opportunities for field applications of epidemiologic
concepts and exercise of creativity in analytic and epidemiologic research.
- Graduate Clinical Residency Program: Residents in dairy-production medicine and
other related programs receive part of their training at the VMTRC. The
Center provides opportunities in a variety of graduate clinical instruction
programs, including those directed at career enhancement and reorientation.
- Graduate Academic Program: Graduate students in M.S. or Ph.D. programs
are involved extensively in academic programs involving combination at both the
Davis campus and the VMTRC. They are encouraged to develop field or
laboratory based research projects at Tulare that are suitable for their thesis project
and dissertation.
