California Dairy Technology Center (CDTC)
The University of California, Davis, College of the Sequoias, Tulare Joint Union School District, and
dairy producers have created the first joint effort to offer a continuum of academic and technical
education as well as applied research at the California Dairy Technology Center. Highly trained
students and a working research dairy will contribute directly to the expanding dairy industry
conomy in the United States.
What is the mission of the CDTC?
The CDTC mission is to provide teaching, rapid response research, technology transfer, public service,
and consumer education for the citizens of California. This 21st Century mission will be accomplished
through the construction and operation of a commercial dairy that will provide a state-of-the-art teaching
model and research facility. Guiding the mission is a daily focus on management of this dairy for animal
health, public health, environmental health, and financial well-being.
Key elements of the CDTC to meet immediate and future needs of our industry:
In this setting: The teaching mission will be to provide job training, academic
courses, and outreach
activities encouraging students to pursue higher education. The research
component will answer industry
issues in applied research and provide technology transfer
to the dairy industry and veterinary
practitioners. In public service,
the dairy program will provide veterinary and nutrition services to
producers as well as consumer education
on food safety, energy production, sanitation procedures,
research findings on health, food and nutritional values of dairy products, as well as other issues.
